Our Songlines is a community arts event commissioned by the City of Canterbury Bankstown and held at the council's Bankstown building. Its purpose was to bring the area's many cultures together through music, art and movement. I worked directly with the council team to create the event identity and its promotional campaign.

The Challenge

The identity had to speak to several communities at once. The event name acknowledges Australia's Indigenous songline tradition, while the program and core audience centred on the area's Middle Eastern communities. The branding needed to honour both stories and still feel open and welcoming to the wider community.

The Approach

I began with extensive research into ancient symbols and motifs from across the Middle East, looking for a visual language of connection and peace that the audience would recognise. That research shaped the hero graphic: interlocking geometric forms that represent unity. The graphic became the centre of the identity and was carried consistently across every print and digital touchpoint.

The Outcome

A culturally grounded identity that gave a multicultural event one clear, recognisable look, rolled out across the council's digital and print promotion for the event.
